Larval Masks

Inspired by the carnival masks of Basel in Switzerland, Larval masks were first used in actor training by Jacques Lecoq. Representing semi-formed beings that are naive, curious and vulnerable, these masks allow the actor to explore the territory between the neutral mask and the more psychologically complicated character mask.

An excellent tool for improvisation and collaboration, these large simple geometrically shaped masks amplify gesture and movement, encouraging the actor to make clear physical choices to create a theatrical dynamic that is compelling to watch.

Strangeface Larval masks are durable and easy to wear. Each mask comes with foam padding and thick elastic straps.
