Description
A useful addition to a plot, Morte (Death) is not always successful in his aims. He may appear to Pantalone, stalk Capitano for the unpaid debt of his soul, or be outwitted by Pulcinella in a game of cards. Morte’s philosophical musings to the audience on the fragility of existence and numerous possibilities for it’s end can be a dark delight, but, as in Punch and Judy, it is always satisfying to see Death cheated even if only temporarily.
